It’s an interesting time of the year isn’t it? A time when we’re starting to feel the weight of the year that’s been, but we’re also sensing that Summer is finally on its way, so the relief of sunset drinks and long lazy evenings are soon to be with us.
If there’s one thing I’ve learned during my 10 years in retail, it is that this time of the year unlike any other time of the year means so many different things to so many different people.
Many look forward to letting their hair down and enjoying some long overdue “me time” while for others it’s the busiest time of year where focusing on everyone else becomes the highest priority.
For us personally, while we don’t celebrate Christmas it’s always a very hectic time of year, with our businesses requiring our highest level of attention and our gift wrapping skills going into overdrive!
However you plan to spend your December, there’s a couple of failsafe techniques I use to ensure I’m able to enjoy the ride that the end of the year always tends to turn into!
Tip #1 - Don’t leave everything until the last minute… now we hear this every year, whether it be grocery shopping (throwing in an extra can of three bean mix each week because, you know, Woolies closes for 24 hours) or buying gifts, it pays to get prepped early to try and avoid the crowds. Making a list and ticking it off is a tried and true method of keeping on track and allowing you to focus on what needs to be done and when!
Tip #2 - Look after yourself, mentally and physically December can take its toll on us both mentally and physically, by adding a whole extra layer of effort onto what has already been a big year. Taking some time out to ensure that your metaphoric “cup is full” (however that looks for you) is an essential part of ensuring that you can enjoy the longer days, and feel refreshed when the new year rolls around and we find ourselves back on the treadmill all too soon!
Tip #3 - Dress to Impress! December is often the time when we are either entertaining more at home, or heading out to drinks and dinner with friends, sometimes at short notice! One way to ensure you feel your best is to have a killer “go-to outfit” at the ready, one that will easily take you to any occasion that is calling your name.
This year, we’re seeing a big lean towards bright fun colours, with lots of jewel tones, the odd sequin here and there and a definite return of the Summer Dress - all making it easy to be party ready in a flash.
But now as the end of the year approaches, and we all begin to reflect on the year that was, I’d like to take this opportunity to thank our lovely loyal customers near and far for your support throughout the year.
It’s been our pleasure being here for you. And to those of you who we haven’t met yet, we look forward to meeting and getting to know you in 2023.
Until next time… Lusanna x
