It’s warm, comforting and familiar, but something I haven’t felt for a while… that’s right, it’s a little ray of sunshine! And it’s something that as a region, we’ve all missed for quite some time now.
Basking in its warm glow this morning, the sun is promising that Spring is on its way and hopefully here to stay for a while.
The Spring edition of Focus is always up there among my favourites. We’re talking Spring Fashion, Fashion on the Field and of course Spring Weddings. There’s not much on a Fashion Calendar that tops these events, and as always I am here for it!
There’s often a sense of optimism and positivity as we emerge from our winter hibernation, the time most of us use to rest, recharge and reset for an active few months ahead. For the next 6 months we’re talking weddings, parties and everything in between.
In fashion retail this is one of our busiest periods of the year.
It’s when we see the fruits of our efforts come to fruition, the choices we made 6 or 12 months ago arriving into store to surprise and delight you, our Customer, but it’s also when we hit the showrooms and lock in our selections for what you and I will be wearing next year. Yep, it never ends.
This season though we are seeing a huge variety when it comes to the inspiration behind the styles that are coming through. As is always the case in fashion there is something for everyone, from the conservative and classic right through to the outrageous and ostentatious, you simply need to identify what you’re looking for and find your people!
But what if you don’t really know what your style is any more or are struggling to find the right pieces to suit your personal style this season? It happens, trends come and go and not every season feels like a good fit for everyone. That’s where a little effort on your behalf can pay dividends.
I’ve always said it’s important to identify which seasonal trends to admire from a distance and which to embrace in your own unique way.
Consider the current Barrel Jean trend for instance. Are Barrel Jeans for everyone? In my humble opinion no. But does that mean you shouldn’t experiment with them in the privacy and safety of a fitting room, not at all! After all what better place to try on a new style that you are considering, when there is expert advice on hand as well as an endless supply of tops and accessories to try on at the same time. You never know, you may end up loving a new trend, or you may find a more suitable take on the trend, which you will actually wear… now that’s what I call a fitting room Win!
The same principles apply to Occasion Dressing. There will always be a style to suit everyone when it comes to special occasion dressing, the secret is to be confident in your personal style rather than trying to fit into a genre that simply doesn’t feel right for you.
Fashion though should be fun, so trusting a well trained eye and pushing a personal boundary or two could very well set you on a new and exciting path when it comes to the pleasure of getting dressed…
So what are we seeing on the shop floor at the moment and what should you be keeping an eye out for this season? Well, right now we’re spotting quite a few spots coming through, which is always a classic when done well… we’re also seeing a lot of bright colourful highly considered patterns emerging once again for high summer, with many Australian designers embracing our long sunny days as inspiration for their collections; think afternoon cocktails by the water under a late setting sun and that’s the vibe in a nutshell.
Whether your personal style is classic and considered or quintessentially quirky, you can be sure you’ll be looking and feeling fabulous, no matter the occasion as long as there’s a touch of sun in the mix!
